Budget Wedding Photography – New Package for 2016/2017

  • January 26, 2016

Wedding Photographer Cavan Monaghan LouthWe like to keep it simple when it comes to our pricing, as you can see from our website. We also want to be fair, as weddings cost enough as it is! Our standard wedding photography package is €1,200. You get full coverage of your day, from prep to first dance (none of this running off when the dinner call sounds, we’ll refuel and get stuck back in to capture you in the arms of your loved one for your first dance before we leave), with two photographers.

Now, not everyone needs us there for prep, there may not be room or time for a photographer to capture you and your other half getting ready. You may also not want us to stay until first dance. If all you want are beautiful photos of your wedding ceremony, whether that be in a church, at the registry office, or an alternative location, followed by some relaxed photos of yourself and your newlywed partner and your wedding party and family, then you shouldn’t have to pay full price!

So we are introducing our Mini Wedding Photography Package, where you still get the same treatment, the same quality and even your engagement/pre-wedding shoot, for just €650! You’ll still get your Custom Wedding USB with all the images that we have captured, finished in the editing style that you prefer.

Click the button below to see what’s included with your package and view our add-on prices (for albums & prints etc.)

Butter Wouldn’t Melt…

  • January 20, 2016

A little insight into the life of Tommy Fisher… Tommy has become MIAN Photography & Training’s Official, Unofficial Mascot over the last 7 months. We did his newborn shoot when he was just a few days old and have done a monthly set of portraits of him with various props and poses. He is a comical little chap and so incredibly cute! He is starting to recognise us as the people for whom he has to pose and is becoming very adept at doing so.

It’s training for us too – Milca has changed his nappy and been ‘sicked’ on and Andy has dressed him in his outfits. This month was a bit of a ‘Butter Wouldn’t Melt’ series, so we thought we’d show you a representation of Tommy before, during and after one of our photo sessions! (It’s amazing what a baby wipe can do!)

Be sure to scroll down to the end to see his mum’s review!

I can’t praise MIAN Photography enough. They have created so many beautiful pictures of my little Tommy. I look forward to our monthly sessions to capture his development. They are not only fantastic photographers but they are also fantastic with Tommy and my other kids aswell. Every session is stress free and alot of fun.

So there you have it… A day (or at least an afternoon) off for mums…

Another mum had this to say:

My little girl was made to look and feel like a real princess during her newborn photo shoot. As a new Mum it was great that MIAN came to our home. All I had to do was sit back and they took care of everything. The results are fabulous! Would definitely recommend them.

Do You “Do” Gay Weddings?

Do You “Do” Gay Weddings?

This week we were asked, imperiously, if we “do gay weddings”…

Engagement PhotosWe don’t photograph “gay weddings“… We don’t photograph “same sex weddings“… We don’t photograph “heterosexual weddings” or as we’ve had them called, “normal weddings” (no wedding is normal, each one is unique!)… We simply photograph weddings, the joining of two people who love one another. That’s it really, there’s not much more to be said on the matter.

Wedding PhotogaphyWhen it comes to your big day, we’re there from prep to first dance. There are two of us, one for each person preparing for the moment in which they will marry the person that they love. We want to capture all the steps along the way and the hours of celebration that come in the wake of your ceremony and provide you with a unique, high quality set of images by which to remember your day.

We are a stress-free option. We have become more than just photographers to our wedding couples and love what we do. We cater for the conventional and the quirky with high quality photographs and if required, plenty of creative post-processing to add to the magic of your day.

14If you’re interested in our work, feel free to visit our galleries, check our pricing and even call us to arrange a no-obligations cuppa and a chat. We can show you our work and talk you through what we can provide for you in the run up to and during your big day.

Bulbs, Lights & Greystones Camera Club

  • October 28, 2015
Bulbs, Lights & Greystones Camera Club

We recently visited Greystones Camera Club in Wicklow for a demonstration and practical workshop on photographing burning bulbs and light painting.

We had an excellent time and would like to thank them all for having us – we hope that they learned something and of course, had as much fun as we did.

Our Light Painting Kit includes (but is not limited to) some of the following items:

  • LED Lenser Torch
  • EL Wire
  • Pixel Stick
  • Sparklers (careful now…)
  • Wire Wool (fine grade), Whisk, Dog Chain (lead), 6V Battery (keep this away from your wire wool at all costs!)
  • Lasers (do NOT point directly at your camera)
  • Small round-topped torch for creating orbs
  • Battery operated Fairy Lights of various colours & lengths

Pretty much anything that emits light, even your phone, can be used for light painting. 30 seconds is usually enough to do what you need to do and remember, if you can’t write backwards, try writing the right way and flipping your image.

If any members of the club would like to have their work included on this post, send a watermarked version to or send them to us on our Facebook Page.

Regarding the burning bulbs – as we said on the night, we use a dimmer switch to control the burn and use standard bulbs (not the eco friendly ones!) to get the desired result, however we do NOT recommend that you try it at home, nor do we take responsibility for any damage or injury should you take it upon yourself to do so.

If you would like us to visit your club for a talk, workshop or demonstration, simply click here to contact us!

Digital Photography & Development for Beginners

  • October 17, 2015

On Thursday evening, we finished our first Digital Photography course for beginners in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan.

With a little theory, some handouts and plenty of practical work, we started with composition and then worked our way through the exposure triangle controlling ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed in Manual mode. We teach our students that putting your camera on ‘Auto’ or other program modes, means that your image is courtesy of your camera manufacturer, not you. Take control, switch to M and take your own images your way!

Following on from that, we will be starting our Digital Darkroom (Introduction to Photoshop & Camera RAW) course on October 29th. We were asked by our students if this is ‘Photoshop’. Yes and no.

Digital Darkroom PosterWhen one takes a photo with a film camera, the film needs to be brought into a darkroom and developed with chemicals in order to achieve the correct exposure, tones etc. according to how you saw the scene. When you shoot in RAW (digital form of a film negative) on your camera, you must then take that file into the digital darkroom e.g. Adobe Camera RAW (a part of Photoshop) in order to tweak the highlights, shadows, colours etc. in order to give the image the life that you saw in front of you when you were taking the picture in the first place.

Our practical, affordable, simple 3 evening mini-course will help you to learn how to process your images once you have taken them. Learn how to improve colour balance, tones, exposure, sharpen, adjust specific areas, use gradients and much more. Handouts will help you to practice at home and you will see big improvements in your photographs after just a few short lessons.

Rather than running a complete set of digital photography courses from beginners to advanced and then running the same for image development and Photoshop, we like to keep our students’ skills with their cameras on-par with their skills in post processing on the computer. This is why we are running alternate digital photography and post processing courses.

If you are interested in attending any of our courses or workshops, please do not hesitate to send us an email on or click here to contact us.

Old Photos – Restoration

Old Photos – Restoration

It happens to all of us at some point… you visit your parents or some long lost relative and you are subjected to the statement…

‘Ooh we have a box of old photos in the attic you might want to look at… I’ll just go and fetch them!’

…so off they go, despite your protestations, and after a few minutes of clattering around the attic, the box full of old photos, covered in cobwebs, just dragged out of from beneath the bag of old magazines and the Sega Megadrive, appears on the table before you. Pile upon, unruly, pile of photos from times gone by. Stuck together, stained and in varying degrees of deterioration.

Our initial fears of ‘Oh my… this could get embarrassing’ are soon forgotten as we realise the wealth of family history concealed within this treasure trove of stained, faded, cracked and dogeared images.

Wedding Photo Restored

What a shame that photographs from our past are invariably in a dishevelled state, but, all is not lost if you have the imagination and patience to render some restoration on them.

Some will be beyond repair but others can be beautifully restored.

We, at MIAN Photography and Training, are quite often requested to perform photo restorations from clients and the reasons for the restorations are as varied as the subjects in the photographs.

Unfortunately, there are no hard and fast price ranges for the restorations as each project is assessed on a photo by photo basis and the time it would take to ‘fix’ the image.  Some can be done reasonably quickly while others can take days to do (depending on the deterioration of the source image).

So what do we do?

Well. firstly we require the image – it is always best to send the (physical) original photograph rather than a scanned version, where possible, as we can then set scanning parameters ourselves as required.  Again each photo is assessed and the scanning size is determined, with heavily damaged photographs the resulting file size is very big, to eek out as much detail from it as possible.

Then the real work starts.  Using various Photoshop filters, spot healing and cloning techniques the damaged portions of the photograph are regenerated.  It is a labour intensive process as small areas at a time are fixed.

There may be times where even artistic license cannot repair damaged areas so taking information from another source image may be needed when available.
